Equifax phone scandal
According to the Wikipedia profile of the company, there has been controversy over
Equifax telephone numbers.
In 2007, two numbers provided by the company for important consumer support to the public on issues such as the free online credit report and credit dispute resolution were allegedly defunct and only gave callers "not in service" messages.
More Equifax information
Equifax is the oldest credit bureau in the US and was founded in 1899. Today it is one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the world - it is now a global business, as well as being one of the "big three" in the American credit industry (the other two major credit bureaus are Experian and TransUnion).
The company stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EFX.
Although most of us think of them from the perspective of consumer credit information such as getting our credit reports and credit scores and buying products like identity theft protection and fraud insurance, the main focus is actually on business to business services.
