So what do fake card generators do?

Actually there are several different types:

1. Fake credit card numbers generators - These generate valid 13 and 16 digit numers for Visa, Mastercard, Amex and most other major cards. By "valid" we mean that the numbers are internally consistent with correct check digits and so are useful for doing things like testing e-commerce software. However, these are still fake credit card numbers.

The numbers are not valid for genuine purchases. Although they are generated using genuine card creation algorithims, because of the instant communication between computers, a fake credit card number will be checked immediately and will ultimately fail as it will not be supported by detailed and complete appropriate bank records.

3. Physical equipment - Actual fake cards are made using a combination of equipment such as printers, computers, scanners and hologram machines that are combined to create high-tech counterfeiting labs. Various combinations of embossing machines, metal plates, plastic credit card blanks and magnetic card readers/writers may be involved. When phoney physical credit cards are created in this manner, criminals do not use the sort of fake credit card numbers and bogus name and other ID details discussed above.
